Christmas Kick-Off

Dave's birthday was a good day where we carried out our yearly tradition of seeking out the Sharp family Christmas tree. We stood Addison on the table where we planned to put the tree in our apartment and determined the tree could not be taller than Addison. A quick internet search led us to Ticonderoga Farms in Northern Virginia. This place was in a location that you want to make sure that you don't run out of gas - long, unpaved roads away from main roads. It was very cool - figuratively and literally! There were a few other activities there for the kids, but as we arrived just an hour after they opened for the season - it was less than ideal. They weren't set up for cider yet and asked us to wait 15 minutes for hot chocolate. We went over to hang out around the playground that looked like Noah's Ark and the Tee-Pees. Addison slid down the slide - right into a puddle of water...soaked pants....cold wind. So, we redirected the kids to the massive "slip and slide" down the hill while I went off to see if I could put a fire under our hot chocolate. :) They had fun! A big gust of wind and my return with lukewarm hot chocolate drove us to begin our hunt. There were some pre-cut Frasier Firs under the tent (our favorite), but we wanted to cut one down, so we headed out into the soggy farmland and found ...

Our 2009 Christmas Tree!!

The icing on the cake for this somewhat Griswold experience was when, right after Dave and the kids headed to the car with the tree and I stayed back to pay, the skies opened up with a DOWNPOUR of sleet. I was soaked and chilled to the bone getting back in the car, but was cheered up when Dave told me our Christmas tree fit in our trunk. What a hoot!

Yukon Cornelius is the best tree topper ever!

We had fun decorating our tree and I'm so glad that we brought some of our totes back with us from Cincinnati. Christmas is my favorite season. And the kids share that spirit...they decorating the fake courtesy of Marriott bush to their liking.
